SELENIUM is an antioxidant trace mineral that neutralizes free radicals that damage cells' ability to renew and repair. Along with Vitamin E, it helps protect cellular membranes from damage with a protective coating, so nutrients enter, and waste is released properly. For these reasons, Selenium is therefore responsible for keeping skin firm and elastic longer!
Another benefit for the skin that it helps prevent acne, as well as aids in skin cancer prevention. Food sources high in Selenium include walnuts, Brazil nuts, cashews, sunflower seeds, sardines, red snapper, tuna, shrimp, beef liver, poultry, brown rice, free-range eggs, and wheat germ.
VITAMIN E is one of my favorite vitamins to keep your skin young and healthy. When combined with vitamin A, vitamin E is especially effective at preventing certain skin cancers. By now you know that it is a potent antioxidant, which stops free radicals caused by pollution, smoking, processed foods, and sun exposure. Eating more antioxidants slows down the damage to skin cells that are constantly exposed and produces a healthy glow.
Food sources high in vitamin E include Atlantic salmon, red peppers, abalone, almonds, eggs, walnuts, avocados, asparagus, sunflower seeds, pine nuts, spinach, oatmeal, and olives.
COENZYME Q10 is often called CoQ 10 or Vitamin Q and known for keeping your heart healthy. Did you know it also keeps your skin healthy too? This incredibly powerful antioxidant reduces free radical damage leading to premature aging. It is also vital for cellular energy which assists in skin repair and rejuvenation as you age. Something might not know, Q10 also protects skin from UV rays by prohibiting DNA damage.
I always take extra when spending the day in the sun. As we age, our bodies produce less and less Q10 so it is important to make sure you have a diet rich in pasture-raised beef, organ meats, and chicken, wild-caught fish, pasture-raised egg yolks, grass-fed butter, nuts and seeds, avocado, lentils and pulses, broccoli and cauliflower, and sweet potatoes.
